Luke Butler is brand new to the Defender Auto Glass Team! He recently moved to the area and we are happy to have him onboard! As an Auto Glass Technician, Luke is out on the road providing glass repairs and replacements for customers’ vehicles.
How did you get started in the automotive industry?
I was never really a car guy but I took advice from a friend in the business and gave auto glass a try. After going through training with my first auto glass company, I learned the basics of repairing and replacing windshields and other automotive glass. But the real learning came when I got out on the road and did more hands-on. Even without a natural mechanical inclination, I found that I did well and learned as I gained more experience.
What is your favorite part about your job?
I really enjoy the mobile side of what I do. There is a lot of independence and interaction with the customer that I enjoy. It is always rewarding the see the satisfaction a customer has once they get new glass.
What do you wish more people, especially students in high school, knew about the profession?
With the economy as it is, students have an overwhelming feeling that they need to get a four year degree to succeed. However there are many trades like auto glass where you can make a good earning with little investment of your own money. For some, it may be better to go that route rather than accumulating debt from college.
Just for fun, what is your dream car?
I do not have a dream car per se but Depression era vehicles are intriguing to me.
